The 1950s marked a move away from World War II and deeper into the new Cold War. The Iron Curtain fell on Eastern Europe, and the first protests and refugees appeared in response. Queen Elizabeth and Fidel Castro came to power. The world was rocked by the arrival of the H-bomb, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe.
