On Dec. 26, 2004, a 9.3-magnitude earthquake shook the Indian Ocean, triggering a series of deadly tsunamis. Millions were killed, injured, or left homeless in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and India. Tidal waves destroyed entire towns and caused a humanitarian emergency.
